Cape Town: Stand-in captain Adam Gilchrist said Australia may have started the ICC World Twenty20 in the wrong frame of mind after finally finding their form in Thursday's 10-wicket victory over Sri Lanka.

The one-day world champions started the tournament with a humiliating loss to Zimbabwe and were also defeated by Pakistan on Tuesday before overcoming the Sri Lankans with 9.4 overs to spare to reach Saturday's semi-finals.

"As a team that has dominated the other two forms of the game for a very long while, it could be easy for us to come into this feeling like we're owed something, as if it's not right that teams are being brought closer to us," Gilchrist said.

"But it's just not the case - you're never owed anything in this game. You can win ten games in a row and reach the world cup final, but you can still lose the tournament," the Australian opener added before sounding an ominous warning.

"We have plenty of experience at playing the big games and we tend to rise to the occasion."
